President: Dr. Marvin
Loper
| Dr. Loper enjoys living in Leaburg, beside the McKenzie River, with his wife, Beatriz, their dog, two cats, two parakeets and 6 canaries. He joined Centro's board of directors in December 2005. When he arrived in Oregon in 2002, he began teaching part time at the College of Business at Oregon State University. Now he has a private practice doing management and organization development consulting. And he teaches part time in the Charles H. Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon. Marvin and his wife, Beatriz, enjoy frequent trips to Mexico where they visit her family and friends. Pastimes include skiing, fishing, and reading mystery novels. |
Vice President: Maxine Proskurowski

| Maxine currently serves as Program Manager of Health Services for the Eugene School District. Originally from Mexico, she moved to Eugene in 1975. Since then, she has been an advocate for the growing of Latino population in the areas of health care access and social economic justice, reasons why she has been part of the Centro Latino Americano board of Director for last ten years. Maxine bicycles everywhere in Eugene, and enjoys doing flamenco and belly dancing, as well as attending Latino social gatherings such as bautizos, quinceañeras, weddings, and being a "Madrina" (god mother) to Latino children. |
New Secretary to be elected

Treasurer: Juan Carlos Valle
| A native of Mexico, and long time resident of Eugene,
Juan Carlos
has completed his A.S. degree at Lane Community College, B.A. at the
University of Oregon, and is currently completing a Master of Public
Administration degree and Not for Profit Management Certification at
the University of Oregon.
Mr. Valle worked for the City of Eugene for 12 years and is currently
employed by the U.S. Government; Social Security Administration. Juan Carlos has volunteered at many public service venues including Toys for Tots, Birth To Three, Centro Latinoamericano, EWEB, City of Eugene, University of Oregon, Food for Lane County, and United Way/ Combined Federal Campaign. He enjoys reading, sporting events, and salsa dancing. |
Dr. Kathleen Shelley
| Kathleen holds a BA in English, a MS in Administration,
and a Ph. D. in Curriculum & Instruction. She has thirty years of experience in teaching and educational administration. She has also experience as a small business owner. During her free times, Kathleen has volunteered in several organizations throughout the community, such as: League of Women Voters, Lane Community College board of education, McKenzie School Board, Habitat for Humanity, McKenzie Arts Festival, and Lane Library League. Kathleenâ?(TM)s favorite hobbies are gardening, weaving, reading. She has gained extensive multicultural experience working as a volunteer in projects in Guatemala and Liberia. |
Palmira R. Veloz Ango
|
Palmira has volunteered for Amigos de Sobrevievientes and
worked closely with refugees from South and Central America. She is
currently a member of "Latinas Unidas de Lane County", a group of about
80 Latina women, mothers, students, and workers who discuss the needs
and concerns of the Latino Community. Last summer she was instruemental
in organizing an entry in the Eugene Celebaration Parade, focused on
the inclusion of Latinos |

| Isbel was born here in Eugene, Oregon, but also spent some of her childhood in California and Arizona. She has traveled extensively. She is a committed activist and brings a wide array of gifts to Centro including mediation, conflict resolution, grant writing and fundraising skills. She is currently the Development Director at Next Step Recycling |
Nonie Ganakis
| Nonie is a long time community member and activist. She has volunteered for Whitebird, Committed Parnters for Youth, The Riverhouse Outdoor Program among others. She is one of the few Bilingual, Spanish speaking , Mental Health Specialist in Lane County. She is currently employed by Lane county Mental Health, Community Mental Health Clinic. |
Elizabeth Andrade
| Elizabeth has been part of the Eugene community since 1991. She brings to Centro over 28 years of experience in accounting, business administration, human resources and cultural competency. Currently she works in the Human Resources Department of Lane Community College. Elizabeth has volunteered at Looking Glass Youth and Family Services, Centro LatinoAmericano, United Way, Anemia Fanconi Foundation, Bach Festival, Huerta del Las Familias and KLCC. She has been a social justice activist since 1975. |
Executive Director:
Jorge Navarro
| Jorge Navarro is originally from the Los Angeles area.
He was
raised in a monolingual, Spanish speaking home, by his loving mother,
Consuelo Navarro, a single parent who was raised in Mexico. Jorge's
early education was in the parochial school system of the Roman
Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He attended a Roman Catholic
Seminary studying to be a priest, and graduated in 1967 from Our Lady
Queen of the Angels High School. He pursued his secular education at
East Los Angeles Community College, California State University at Los
Angeles and Fullerton as a History major. Jorge's opposition to the
Vietnam War introduced him to the world of activism. As a conscientious objector his alternate military service consisted of providing remedial mathematics classes to Latino students at Fremont Junior High School in Anaheim California. Jorge came to Oregon in 1973. In the following 34 years he has been a professional musician, a childcare provider, a professional cook and waiter, a deli manager, restaurateur, a certified bilingual multicultural drug and alcohol counselor for the Hispanic population, and gambling counselor. He has served on numerous community and city advisory boards. He has worked with Children and Family Services on their Latino Advisory Board, the HULT Center, the Community Center for the Performing Arts (WOW Hall), the City of Eugene's North Corridor Planning Committee, and Centro LatinoAmericano. He has served on the Board of Directors for the WOW Hall, the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, and Centro LatinoAmericano. Jorge is also an avid racquetball player and enjoys dancing, playing music, singing, and the arts. |
